INKS: The Journal of the Comics Study Society Nominated for a Prestigious Eisner Award at 2025 San Diego Comic Con
Arigon’s Comic Art Work Featured in Journal’s Special Issue, “Seeing Stories With Indigenous Comics”

The world famous San Diego Comic Con will take place July 24-27 in downtown San Diego, California. Part of the hoopla of the conference is their annual Eisner Awards that honor the best work of the year in all genres of comic art. Named after Will Eisner, the pioneering comic and writer, the awards will be given out on Friday, July 25th at the San Diego Hilton Bayfront Hotel.
Last year, Arigon was approached by her friend, Professor Susan Bernardin about collaborating on an article for the INKS journal. Susan crafted the scholarly article, “Curative Comics: Arigon Starr’s History Lessons” and Arigon added artwork from her “Trail of Tears” comic, the cover artwork for the “INC’s Universe” group comic, “Super Indian” and “Contenders.” Arigon also premiered a page from her upcoming graphic novel anthology featuring stories about the Government’s Relocation Program. The new comic page is a comic version of her stage play “Round Dance,” about a Muscogee-Creek family who relocates from Oklahoma to Los Angeles in the 1950s.
The special issue also includes artwork and stories from wide variety of Indigenous comic creators. Each article dives deep into a discussion of how the different creators weave history and contemporary stories into sequential art. The journal is published by the Ohio State University and was released in Fall 2024. You can read an archive version of the journal online via Project Muse. Here’s the link:

“INKS: The Journal of the Comics Studies Society” was nominated in the “Best Comics-Related Periodical/Journalism” category of the Eisner Awards.
“Incredibly honored to be part of this journal and thrilled to be in any Eisner Award category,” said Arigon. “You know I’m going to be at the awards show rooting them on!”
